MadeiraCampers Rental Terms & Conditions

These Terms and Conditions govern all campervan rental agreements between MadeiraCampers (operated by Natalia and Oleg, based in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal) and the customer. By confirming a booking, you agree to these terms in full.

1. Booking and Reservation

A reservation is confirmed upon receipt of a deposit of 30% of the total rental cost. The remaining balance is due no later than 7 days before the rental start date. Reservations made within 7 days of the start date require full payment at time of booking. Bookings are subject to vehicle availability.

2. Rental Period

The minimum rental period is 3 nights. The maximum rental period is 30 days. The rental start and end times will be agreed upon at the time of booking. Late returns without prior notification may incur an additional charge equal to one day’s rental rate.

3. Delivery and Collection

MadeiraCampers delivers the campervan to Funchal Airport (FNC) and collects it from the same location at no extra charge. Delivery or collection to alternative locations on Madeira island may be arranged subject to availability and an additional transfer fee. The customer is responsible for ensuring someone is present at the agreed location and time to receive and return the vehicle.

4. Driver Requirements

The primary driver must be at least 23 years of age and hold a valid category B driving licence that has been held for a minimum of 2 years. Additional drivers must meet the same requirements and must be listed on the rental agreement prior to the start of the rental period. Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substance is strictly prohibited.

5. Security Deposit

A refundable security deposit of €500 is required at the time of vehicle handover. This deposit is held as security against any damage, excessive cleaning costs, traffic fines, or other charges incurred during the rental period. The deposit will be returned within 14 days of the vehicle’s return, provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition as received and no outstanding charges apply.

6. Fuel Policy

The campervan is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than at departure, the cost of refuelling plus a service fee of €20 will be deducted from the security deposit.

7. Vehicle Use

The campervan may only be used on public roads in Madeira Island, Portugal. Use of the vehicle on unpaved or off-road tracks, ferry crossings to other islands, or any illegal activity is strictly prohibited. The customer is responsible for all traffic fines, toll charges, and parking fees incurred during the rental period. Smoking is not permitted inside the vehicle at any time.

8. Overnight Camping

Overnight parking and sleeping in the campervan is only permitted at officially designated campsites on Madeira Island. Wild camping — including parking overnight in natural parks, beaches, car parks, or residential areas — is not permitted under Madeiran law. A list of authorised campsites is provided with the rental documentation.

9. Damage and Accidents

The customer is responsible for any damage to the vehicle that occurs during the rental period, up to the amount of the security deposit. In the event of an accident or damage, the customer must notify MadeiraCampers immediately via WhatsApp and contact the local authorities if required. The customer must not admit liability or arrange repairs without prior written authorisation from MadeiraCampers.

10. Insurance

The rental fee includes third-party liability insurance as required by Portuguese law. This insurance does not cover damage to the rented vehicle itself. Customers are advised to arrange their own travel insurance covering campervan rental in Portugal if they require comprehensive coverage.

11. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made 14 or more days before the rental start date: full refund of the deposit paid. Cancellations made fewer than 14 days before the rental start date: the deposit is non-refundable. Cancellations made fewer than 48 hours before the rental start date: 100% of the total rental cost is charged. MadeiraCampers reserves the right to cancel a reservation in cases of force majeure or unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, a full refund will be issued.

12. Liability

MadeiraCampers is not liable for any loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings left in the vehicle. MadeiraCampers is not liable for any personal injury, loss, or consequential damages arising from the use of the rental vehicle. The customer uses the vehicle entirely at their own risk.

13. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Portugal. Any disputes arising from this agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
